Dan Dotson was born in Riverside, California on November 23, 1962. He is the grandson of San Fancher, a cattle and farm auctioneer in northwest Arkansas.
Dan has been married to Laura Dotson, a fellow auctioneer, since August 2000. They have three children, and the family currently lives in San Bernardino, California.
Dan career’s in the auction business started when he was just 11 years old. His grandfather would teach him the inner workings of the industry during the summer when he was not in school. Because he had such a passion for auctioneering, Dan would miss class and participate in the Chino auction in California, selling furniture for Merl Bernard, an auctioneer.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Dan managed and ran a Riverside-based auction house that honed in on collectibles, furniture, porcelain dolls and pottery. It was in 1983 when Dan launched America Auctioneers, a company that specializes in auctions of storage lockers, business inventories, estates and other elements. After meeting his wife, she would eventually serve as co-owner and manager.
Dan is also the owner and operator of StorageAuctions.net, a digital self-storage auction listings website in the United States and Canada.
He would eventually become a famous individual after A&E approached Dan and his wife to appear on the hit reality television series “Storage Wars.” Dan and Laura are two popular characters on the series because of their immense knowledge of the business, and they continue to appear on the show, despite their newfound fame.
Over the last few years, Dan has made multiple appearances on such TV programs as “Hot in Cleveland,” “Cockroaches,” “Anderson Live,” “Fox and Friends” and “Let’s Make a Deal.” He has also been featured in The Washington Post, USA Today and TMZ.
His life took a turn for the worst in June 2014 when he suffered a double brain aneurysm. He underwent surgery to repair damages in his brain.
